December 25, 1674

Constantinople, Turkey

Gidiane,

May it be to your liking. Wove of midnight and other depressions, ‘tis but shadow
to the darkling of thy mysteries.

The Dress

Rhubarb velvet frills folded, clasped
drawing coquettish ashen feather pleats and wax
o’er plumage of lace upon divine molding;
a mannequin suspended in rue
liquored of wine satin curtain panniers
‘round thick garden stitching and Flemish brocade,
scabbard to anklets or petticoat fin’ry
befit melancholia embossed of a
Queen.
